British pianist Jamie Loftus graduated with a Master’s cum laude at the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre, studying under prof. Peep Lassmann, a student of the legendary Russian pianist Emil Gilels. He was awarded 3rd Prize at the Theodor Stein Piano Competition 2019, and has given recitals as a soloist, chamber musician and accompanist in the UK, Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Spain, with a recording featured on Latvian state TV channel LTV1. He received a BMus (Hons) from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama on scholarship, and was invited to spend an Erasmus year at the Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, studying under renowned Finnish pianist Juhanni Lagerspetz and chamber coach Matti Raekallio of the Juilliard School.

Since 2007, Jamie has taught private students of all ages from a variety of cultures and backgrounds, in the UK, Finland and Estonia. Whether you wish to pursue ABRSM graded exams, hone your existing piano skills, or are simply here to immerse yourself in music, Jamie will guide you through your process and help you to discover your inner pianist.

During his time at the Sibelius Academy he studied piano pedagogy with Rebekka Angervo from the Espoo Music Institute, with an emphasis on aural skills, improvisation, student-teacher duets and practicing purely in the mind. In Estonia during the MA, he worked at the Märjamaa Music and Art School as a piano teacher and guest examiner, preparing students for recitals at music festivals, cultural events and internal examinations. In the UK he has worked with a breadth of private students and holds a DipABRSM, the standard professional piano teaching diploma offered by ABRSM, together with an enhanced DBS certificate.

Drawing on his experience of many pedagogical approaches, and having played in the masterclasses of prestigious pianists and professors from around the world like Robert McDonald, Julian Martin, Steven Osborne, Alexander Kobrin, Artur Pizzaro, and Dr. Jose Ramon Mendez, Jamie offers an innovative and flexible teaching method that will inspire and inform any budding pianist.

As the founder, accompanist and manager of the Vocal Poems of the Baltics ensemble, Jamie is always searching for new ideas within the Western Art Music sphere. His ensemble features singers from each of the Baltic states, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, presenting vocal works by their native composers, and has toured extensively with the support of the Estonian Cultural Endowment KULKA since May 2018. He has also premiered solo and chamber works in Estonia, Latvia and Spain, and is pursuing his interest in new music here in London.
